I was just getting ready for all the Christmas hub-bub and you popped in my mind Joshy (no surprise.) I really miss you this time of year, us all bundled up, walking in the cold air after a big meal at India's Oven, holding hands and goofing around. I hope you are looking down on my crazy life and laughing your ass off at my kids (Thing one and Thing two.) I just know you three would have been wild about each other. Merry Christmas to you and to all Josh's friend and family. Love, Nicky

My mom was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor two days ago. i came home from hearing the news from her surgeon and stood at my kitchen window staring at the trees, utterly numb. as i was watching the branches of one tree blow like crazy in the wind, two large crows flew side by side and landed on the upper most branches. they sat there, braced against the wind, fluttering their wings every once in a while to keep their balance, for ten minutes or so. i smiled and waved at them - i think i know who they were. thank you.........

I recorded Josh and his band at T.T. The Bears in Cambridge as he was touring Inarticulate Nature Boy in 1997. Josh and I became friends through a common friend, and I'll never forget the amazing moments trading guitar solos with him at a late night jam session. Josh gave me permission to record the performance on a DAT. Excellent band. Amazing human being.

Just heard "Three Strange Days" on WRNR this afternoon and made a mental note to look up the band when I got home...a 'whatever happened to' internet search. Imagine my surprise to learn that Josh had passed away. I am so very sorry. I have fond memories of seeing "School of Fish" perform live in Fells Point, Md. one night. My friend and I were surprised to find Josh sitting outside the club after the show and joined him on the curb for a chat. He was humble, warm and friendly. It was a thrill to hear the band played on the radio a few months later. I remember thinking that if anyone deserved success, he did. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Hello to everyone who loved Josh ! I think I'm the only Brazilian fan around once by the early 90's was a real " hunt treasure " to find SPF albums over here. So I went to San Diego in 91 and then I bought this true gem....3 Strange Days video used to be airplayed on MTV and I was totally " speechless " since the 1st time I saw it....Then I decide to buy this fantastic album from a obviously fantastic band.....I lost my brother when he waz only 32 and I know how terrible is this " vacuum ".... Anyway, I'm quite sure they are happy to see us celebrating their lives.... Thank you. André.

This was written for my first news letter called New Journeys - September 2007. There is a Hebrew word “b’shert” which means some things are fated. I’ve just started reading a new book titled “Wrestling with Angels” by John J. Clayton. I’m reading the “Authors Preface,” page xiii, where the author mentions his deceased son Josh. I looked up the web page given (www.joshclayton.com) where I listen to a song on the intro page and realized the lyrics to the intro song; “Waiting to Be” was exactly what this newsletter was meant to be… “cause you’re waiting to be, what you already are, you’re the only one left in your way, waiting to be what you’ve been from the start...,” “You gotta build your boat, you gotta dream your dream, and raise your sail to the wind, ride the ocean within…” This is pure b’shert!!!! What a wonderful message – thank you God for bring Josh’s message to us. With this message of hope and love, my we rejoice “being who we already are.” So, go and check out this wonderful song and say a prayer for Josh (1967-2000) and his family and friends. Br. Randall

A documentary about the frauds of colonization in Southern California in the territory of the Coastal Samala people (Santa Barbara), recently called the Chumash. The story extends in time from the Mexican war and land grants denied through fraud associated with the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to 1971 and fraud conducted by associates of a non profit religious corporation called "The Brotherhood of the Sun" which took land granted by Mexico to a Samala family and included a traditional hunt camp on the summit of the coastal mountains. The sound track is from the CD "Sacred Spirit", Chants and Dances of the Native Americans, an album produced by the Native American Rights Fund.     Hi, I remember first hearing 3 Strange Days on the radio and next time I was at a cd store buying the album. Such a good album, solid all the way thru. I played it so much had it on rotation with Nevermind,Blood Sugar Sex Magik and other big 90's albums. I consider it to be one of the best albums of the 90s. It still holds up, to this day I still will play it from beginning to end without skipping a song. I saw SOF play in Portland Or, House Of Freaks opened for them. I thought it kind of funny that SOF was headlining over a band that had been around awhile and was also supporting an album their 5th I think. I remember one day wondering if SOF would ever record again and tour. This was back in early early 2000's and I was saddened to read up about Josh's passing. To me it was impacting not only due to closeness of age but also because of how the music affected me. Listening to a band for years, and having it with me thru good and bad times; then bam in a way its gone. There won't be anymore music; its hard it feels like somethings missing. I felt the same when Cobain died and Dimebag Darrell; people you like and listened to and who are with you thru the music they make and suddenly bam their gone, its difficult. I'm glad Josh made more music and lived a life that obviously influenced people in a very positive way. I used to be more like that and have kind of grown cynical and jaded. I have read what people have shared about Josh and it makes me want to change to live, love and smile more. To make others feel good like I used to do.To have someone you look up to be able to live by an example that you want to see in yourself. It tells me that there is hope, even in the toughest of times you can still smile and follow your own path; change is possible. TY Josh for the music you made that I got to hear, I'm so glad I got to see you live. Ty to those who made this website so I could get to know him a little bit more and to be able to share a few thoughts and memories. Sincerely, Chad

Hey Josh!! I just played a Lazlo show in Cambridge last night our 3rd show in almost 7 years and what a night it was. My father got up and played violin on Ship on the Wall and my 11 yr old niece, Eliza, sang harmonies on Map of My Heart and Trampoline. Eliza discovered your music this summer all on her own through an iPod I gave her with over 1000 songs. She heard Dragonfly and was instantly hooked. She listens to Spirit all the time now and knows every word. I'm staying at my sister's house - only a mile from your old place in Brookline - and so many great memories are flooding back. Packing up the Dodge mini- van for our maiden voyage to LA in '87 - jamming with Larry in your Living room. All our plans and dreams for rock stardom laid right before us. Who knew we would come so far and achieve so much. Speaking of achievements, Jeff's wedding was last weekend, and what a uperstar he was. Your words, spoken at the ceremony, are so insightful, so inspirational - was sitting next to Laura and Steve - my heart filled with the familiar melancholic mix of pride, happiness and sadness. I'm so happy I'm in SM near your sister now. So happy I'm near my sister tonight, thinking of you and how your music and your inspiration lives on. Loving and missing you dearly. Chad

Was listening to the SOF version (live) of Father Figure, and remembered the SOF concert I saw in Columbia, Missouri, in the fall of 1991 (I believe). The concert was terrific, I recall, and one of the non-SOF songs the band played was the Beatles' Ticket to Ride. It was great! Wondering if others have similar recollections of cover songs sang by Josh/SOF. An SOF album of live tracks such as those would be a great way to remember Josh in a "new" context. Just read another post and realized that Josh's mother died last year. My condolences to the family; she was a nice woman who is missed.

Really sorry to find out of this tragic death today. Remember the summer of 1991, two Brits we were on a 3 month trip to USA. All in the name of gigs, gigs and gigs. No kidding, the day we landed in NYC we are at a show that evening (CBGB's Liquid Jesus and I love You) As we made it across to West Coast we had 6 weeks in Hollywood. 3 Strange Days was playing on all the Radios, that was the memory of 1991 , it was Metallica Black Album release time at midnight on Sunset. I was lucky enough to see School of Fish in Hollywood, somewhere near Le Brea/Sunset. Remember the live hook that is 3 strange days to this day, and the beautiful voice that was. RIP.

I caught the beginning and end, it's the part in the middle I'm unsure of. Anyway, my daughter loves to sing along with it and asks the same thing. I've been wondering for a couple years now and thought I'd come here to ask. Surely someone knows. Shoot me an email. Thanx a million!!! Be well.

IN BOSTON, A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER 9/11/2001 I WENT BACKSTAGE WHERE I MET THE WALLFLOWERS, WHO WERE OPENING FOR JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP. I SAW MICHAEL WARD AND APPROACHED HIM. I HAD SOME AMBIVALENCE, NOT KNOWING IF THE SPLIT OF THE BAND HAD BEEN AMICABLE....BUT I BROACHED HOW MUCH I LOVED SCHOOL OF FISH, AND ESPECIALLY JOSH'S VOCAL STYLE. I ASKED IF HE HAD KEPT IN TOUCH WITH JOSH, AND HE TOLD ME BRIEFLY WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I WAS STUNNED, SHOCKED, SO VERY UPSET IN WAYS I CAN'T DESCRIBE. HEARING ABOUT AN ICON OF MINE PASSING, IN THE WAKE OF THE 9/11 TRADGEDY...I WAS STUNNED. I MISS JOSH, BUT HE HAS LEFT A LEGACY FOR ME THAT IS HIS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC.

I was watching music television a couple of nights ago (not MTV but music available through cable). 3 Strange Days played, and one of the facts shown was that you had passed away in 2000. I felt in shock! I remember seeing School of Fish in concert in 1994 or 1995. I immediately joined the fan club and began receiving postcards from you, letting me know about the bands split and your solo career pursuit. I have always loved your music and have actually turned several people on the School of Fish, who might not have listened otherwise. I am without words (and if you knew me, you would understand how amazing it would be for me to be speechless!). Some of my fondest memories are tied into School of Fish songs. I dedicate "Speechless" to you, as I truly am speechless. I hope to hear your beautiful voice again in the next life.

I wake up the next morning and it's like Christmas, the web site is filling the stockings and the tree is fully stocked. Well Santa thank you, I was very happy and very impressed. Thank you for comming through in such a big way again." well, it was always a pleasure, you never took advantage and was always so very grateful when I had put some new stuff together. So thank YOU! I was in Amsterdam with Michael in the Summer, he had Pizza Pancakes!! Sweet pancakes with cheese and pizza toppings! tasted good, i'm going to have some this Saturday when i'm over there again. I'll pancake toast to you my friend. Anyway, I miss you but will always be grateful for the fact that I met so many wonderful people through you. Your Mom was very very special and she is so missed. I love getting my New Years card from Laura every year and the occasional message from George. OK, I need some sleep, i'll be listening to Deer In The Headlights on my iPod while I doze off. Bye for now. Dene x

Last night I went to an art opening at the Billy Shire Gallery in Los Angeles of work by David Anderle. The paintings are wonderful...compelling insightful portraits and lush landscapes, but the reason I'm writing about it here is that there are 2 paintings of JOSH! David Anderle is the legendary A&R executive who signed Josh to A&M records. When he left A&M he decided to pursue his lifelong dream to paint fulltime. He felt so connected to Josh that he was inspired to paint him twice. You can type in these URLs to see the paintings: billyshirefinearts.com/07Anderle/dragonfly.html and billyshirefinearts.com/ 07Anderle/josh.html. Or, even better, you can go to the gallery and see them in person! I'm glad you're visiting this site! Josh's sister Laura
